After a bad run of form in recent weeks, Paul Merson feels sorry for Kieran Trippier.
Last season, the English fullback was undeniably one of the league’s top defenders, helping his team achieve Champions League qualification.
However, after impressing at the start of the season, his form has gradually dropped, with Newcastle’s recent loss to Chelsea being a prominent example.
In injury time, Trippier sent the ball to Mykhailo Mudryk, who leveled the score and sent the game to penalties.
The right-back then missed his penalty as his team lost 4-2 and were knocked out of the Carabao Cup.
Merson told Sportskeeda that he felt sorry for Trippier before of this weekend’s match against Luton Town.
“Kieran Trippier is struggling right now and it’s sad to see.” He stated.
“After a strong start to the season, his confidence appears to have dipped.” I simply believe Eddie Howe’s troops will have a difficult time.
“If Luton gets in front first, I don’t see Newcastle steamrolling them after that.”
Rob Edwards’ team has shocked many people with their success since being promoted to the Premiership.
