Crewe Alexandra and Stockport County are hoping to get Newcastle United midfielder Joe White on loan this month.
Newcastle United are weighing their options with 21-year-old midfielder Joe White, owing to an injury situation and interest from other clubs.
White has joined Crewe Alexandra on a half-season loan until January 14. He has appeared in 23 games for League Two, scoring two goals and assisted on three others.
Crewe’s dreams of extending White’s stay at Gresty Road until the end of the season have been shattered, according to the Gazette, as Newcastle make a decision on the player’s short-term future. White has a contract with Newcastle until 2025 but has yet to make a competitive first-team appearance.
Crewe’s progress has piqued the interest of League Two leaders Stockport County, who have enquired about the 21-year-old in the hope of securing a half-season loan transfer. Newcastle are currently taking care with any prospective January outgoings due to their injury crisis, so a move to Edgeley Park could happen later this month.
Due to injuries in the Newcastle squad, 17-year-old midfielder Lewis Miley has established himself as a first-team regular in Eddie Howe’s side during the last two months. Midfielders Sandro Tonali, Elliot Anderson, and Joe Willock are now out, while Howe has also had to cope with Joelinton and Sean Longstaff injuries in the last month.
White would not be included in Newcastle’s 25-man Premier League squad due to his age.
Since his debut against Rotherham in 2021, White has appeared in several friendlies for Newcastle. The Carlisle-born midfielder has previously been loaned out to Hartlepool United in League Two and Exeter City in League One.
