Dwight Yorke has questioned Michael Beale’s post-Rangers career, saying the manager landed the top job at Sunderland after “failed opportunities.”
Former Manchester United striker Yorke believes Beale’s results and following opportunities are unrelated, criticizing football management’s “unfair” tendency.
Beale, who formerly coached at Liverpool and Sao Paulo, has recently worked as a Rangers assistant, Aston Villa No. 2, Queen’s Park Rangers manager, Rangers manager, and currently Sunderland manager.
Yorke, on the other hand, has remarked that he is perplexed by Beale’s continuous high-profile roles, citing Wayne Rooney as well.
Beale appears to be a “decent bloke,” according to the Trinidad and Tobago legend, but his results haven’t been “overly impressive.”
Yorke stated to Footy Accumulators, “Was I surprised by Michael Beale’s appointment?” People are granted chances based on missed opportunities, which baffles me.
“He worked as an assistant at Villa and did well. He did well at QPR before moving on to Rangers, where he was fired, and now Sunderland.
“Here we are, a year later, with someone like him in three or four jobs!” You’re just scratching your head as to how that works and what results.
“I don’t know him, but I’ve listened to him on TV, and he seems like a decent guy, but ultimately you have to be judged on results, right?”
“And, while his results aren’t particularly impressive, he’s got another high-profile job at Sunderland.”
“It’s unfair when someone like me is looking for a chance in football and you don’t get the rub of the green in that sense.”
“He’s been given another chance to prove himself, so we’ll have to wait and see.”
“I just find it crazy that he’s got into the situation of going to QPR, Rangers and then Sunderland and a bit like Wayne Rooney, these people seem to be getting all of these chances and I don’t get how it works.”
