Southampton has entered the transfer market, but don’t get too excited just yet because it is a starlet rather than a full-fledged star.
The Daily Echo has revealed that the latest Saint to join the club is 18-year-old Cork City midfielder Joe O’Brien Whitmarsh.
The youngster is highly rated and has been said to be a target for other English clubs, with Everton being particularly interested.
He was on trial at Staplewood in December, and it appears that Saints liked what they saw of the central midfielder, who came into the Cork City first team last season, making 23 appearances and scoring four goals and providing an assist.
So, while he will be part of our U21 academy squad, he has senior football experience and could be a potential star sooner than we anticipate.
