Sky Blues midfielder Callum O’Hare speaks out about contract talks with the club in the latest Coventry City news.
Callum O’Hare confirms that Coventry City have offered him a new contract, but he is uncertain of the current status of negotiations.
The 25-year-old is said to have been offered new terms, but as things stand, he could be set to leave the CBS Arena as a free agent when his current deal expires in the summer. Coventry will miss O’Hare if he leaves, with the Sky Blues’ form improving since his return from a lengthy injury layoff.
On Saturday, he scored twice in Coventry City’s 3-1 win over Leicester City. However, the midfielder confesses he currently “doesn’t have a clue what’s going on” in terms of contract negotiations with the club.
“They actually offered me one but at the minute, honestly, I don’t have a clue what’s going on,” he told Sky Sports at the time.
“Obviously, I have a special connection with the fans here, and everyone at the club knows how much I enjoy it here.” We’ll see what happens, but all I can say is that I’m going to give it my all here and win games. That’s truly all that matters, so give it your all for the club.”
Former Wimbledon and Reading midfielder Jobi McAnuff, a Sky Blues vs. Leicester analyst, feels contract discussions are likely to be “in the hands of his agent” and that the player “has a point to prove” in order to ensure his future.
“I think he means that it’s in the hands of his agent,” that’s what he said. “I’d look at it from their perspective, and there was probably a possibility of extending when he was injured.”
“Whether they were waiting to see how he recovered from his injury or not, it’s now coming back to bite them a little bit because he’s absolutely flying.” He’s had a significant impact since his return.
“He and the medical staff deserve credit.” A year from now. It’s a long time, especially when that team is doing so well, and he alluded to it in terms of their run and being a bit of a forgotten man.
“I think, especially since he’s returned, he’s got the bit between his teeth.” I believe he has a point to prove when you are out of contract.
“The shop window is very, very much open, but they are a better team, particularly this season when he’s in it because he gives them that energy, that enthusiasm.”
