The Miami Dolphins were one of the most exciting teams to watch in the NFL during the 2023 regular season, thanks mostly to their powerful offense.

The Dolphins finished third in the league in points per offensive drive, first in overall offensive yards, first in passing yards per game, and sixth in rushing yards per game in 2023.

However, Miami’s devastating attack was restricted to only seven points in a 26-7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round of the playoffs on Saturday.

Following the Dolphins’ loss, Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe appeared on the “Nightcap” show and discussed what he believes is holding Miami back (via Nightcap on Twitter).

“You know I’m telling you the truth.” The quarterback is most likely the Dolphins’ weak link.”

Tua Tagovailoa, Miami’s current starting quarterback, was 20-of-39 for 199 yards, one touchdown, and one interception against the Chiefs on Saturday.

Tagovailoa, despite having the potential for a massive contract, fell short for the Dolphins this season when they needed him the most.

Overall, the Miami quarterback had 4,624 passing yards, 29 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions in 2023.

Tagovailoa’s numbers aren’t bad, but is there a quarterback who could do better in the Dolphins’ offense?

To be fair, Saturday’s playoff game was played in subzero conditions that felt like -30 degrees with the wind chill at times.

So, the circumstances weren’t perfect, but Tagovailoa left a lot to be desired on Saturday, which might lead to the Dolphins declining to offer him a lucrative extension this offseason.
