Alexander Isak scored in Newcastle United’s 3-2 loss to Manchester City on Saturday, and Pep Guardiola is clearly a fan of the Sweden international.
Pep Guardiola has stated that he ‘admires’ Alexander Isak after Manchester City wanted the ‘amazing’ striker before he joined to Newcastle United.
Isak equalized Newcastle against the world champions in the first half of the Magpies’ 3-2 defeat at St James’ Park on Saturday night. Bernardo Silva had opened the scoring for City in the first half with a brilliant back heel, but Isak quickly equalized with a fantastic goal of his own.
Guardiola would have seen similar curling finishes many times during Isak’s tenure at Real Sociedad, as the City manager followed the Sweden international during his time at Real Sociedad. Of course, City signed a certain Erling Haaland in 2022 before Newcastle shattered their transfer record to get Isak just a few months later. Both moves have benefited the Scandinavians and their respective clubs.
“Since arriving, his impact has been really good,” Guardiola said of Isak on City’s Match Day Live show. “With his speed and finishing ability, he had all the ingredients to be an incredible striker.”
“We began following him at Real Sociedad. We were blown away. He was a prey. Wow. He is a young player, but with his abilities, many clubs around the world are taking notice. It’s not surprising, and he’s acclimated well to life in the Premier League. I don’t know him personally, but I greatly admire him.”
