Sunderland may have received a late boost in their pursuit of one of their January striker targets.

Sunderland enters today’s deadline day with one main goal in mind: to recruit a new striker.
The club has already signed defender Leo Hjelde, and they are expected to seal the signing of winger Romaine Mundle from Standard Liege shortly.

So a new striker is the only priority remaining, and it appears that the Black Cats will spend the final 24 hours of the transfer window looking for a new No. 9.

Sunderland handed potential Kieffer Moore lifeline

However, Sunderland and manager Michael Beale may have just received an unexpected boost in the quest for Moore.

Cardiff City are reportedly close to acquiring ex-Bristol City striker Famara Diedhiou, perhaps clearing the way for Moore to join Sunderland, Ipswich, or another interested team.

The 31-year-old has only appeared eight times in the Premier League this season, scoring once.

However, the 40-cap Welsh international is a prolific Championship attacker, scoring 47 goals in 155 games in the second tier.

Michael Beale will be praying for a new striker

Beale will be praying that his club signs at least one striker tomorrow, whether it is Moore or someone else.

But, compared to Sunderland’s current strikers, Moore appears to be a highly exciting purchase.

He has proven himself in the Championship and on the international scene, which is more than can be said for Sunderland’s strikers from last summer.

Beale’s attacking alternatives are lacking in experience, as evidenced by their performances this season.

Moore, on the other hand, would bring not only experience but also a high level of talent, having scored 20 Championship goals for Cardiff in the 2021/22 season alone.

And it appears that Cardiff has moved their attention elsewhere, which will only benefit Sunderland, according to Moore.

But Sunderland isn’t the only club interested, so if they want to get him in today, they’ll have to move quickly.
