Kieran Trippier drew interest from Bayern Munich last month, but the Bundesliga club was unable to fulfill Newcastle United’s demands.
Kieran Trippier has confessed that after Bayern Munich expressed interest, he held transfer talks with Newcastle United’s administration.
A unexpected January twist tied the Toon talisman to one of European football’s most powerful clubs. Bayern had already signed Harry Kane and Eric Dier, both of whom Trippier had previously played with at Tottenham Hotspur and England.
Eddie Howe stated a week ago that the 33-year-old never sought for a transfer and is still “fully committed” to Newcastle. He stated, “We obviously hope he will stay, and I am confident he will be a part of our long-term future, but I must emphasize that he has never asked to leave or even questioned his future here.”
“He has always been fully committed. I’ve been in football long enough to never say 100 percent because I don’t want to appear stupid, but Kieran is 100 percent dedicated, and we absolutely want to keep him.”
With the transfer window closed, Trippier has spoken out about a difficult few days that could have significantly altered his season plans. The right-back spoke with Newcastle’s executives and confirmed his commitment to the Magpies.
“It was a strange one because I take it as a compliment,” Trippier told Sky Sports. “As a player, I have never requested to leave. I am committed to the club.
“I spoke with my management, owners, and teammates, but nothing changed. I want to give my all for the Newcastle club. My commitment has remained constant from the day I arrived.
“It’s a big club with a good manager and players. They are one of the largest clubs in the world. But I returned because my family found it difficult in Spain. I’m comfortable and happy here, and I have an incredible relationship with the manager (Howe).”
