Leeds United had a fantastic weekend, collecting up three points at Bristol City on Friday night before watching Ipswich Town lose to Preston – and Kieran McKenna has discussed the race.

Leicester’s spectacular 5-0 win at Stoke keeps them at the top of the league and reminds any doubters that they are the side to beat – and seems certain to win the division by a significant margin.

Willy Gnonto’s second goal of the season helped Leeds win at Bristol City the night before, putting pressure on Southampton and Ipswich to repeat our performance and avoid losing ground in the race.

Southampton’s excellent streak continued as they easily won 2-0 at Rotherham. However, Ipswich’s form has deteriorated in recent weeks. An FA Cup defeat at home to Maidstone is evidence of this.

Harry Redknapp stated it would be crazy not to count Leeds out of the battle for automatic promotion, and they are now third, with Southampton in second. However, the Saints have played one less game and are one point ahead.

Their form is excellent, and they are currently considered the favourites to finish second behind Leeds, themselves, and Ipswich. However, anything may happen in the Championship. Leeds face the Saints on the last day.

There will undoubtedly be many twists and turns, but McKenna must pick his Ipswich men up from the deck if they are to contend for the top two spots. He described Leeds as “fantastic” and in “incredible form”.

“Look, there’s 46 games,” McKenna stated on Saturday, according to Leeds Live. “That is only the fourth game we have lost in the league this season. A terrific effort. We realize it won’t all be sunny days.

“There are teams around us with fantastic squads in incredible form and if we use up any of our energy focusing on them we won’t have the required energy to be competitive every week,” he said.
