Jordan Love

Ordan Love is the Green Bay Packers’ future franchise quarterback, and he’s ready to get rewarded accordingly.

The Packers and Love have yet to agree on a specific figure, but Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported on Super Bowl Sunday that the Packers intend to sign Love to a long-term contract in or around June 2024 that represents “fair-market” value for a starting NFL quarterback.

Prior to the 2023 season, the Packers did a Band-Aid deal with Love, signing him to a one-year, $22.5 million extension through 2024 that included a raise in 2023 before Green Bay would have had to pick up Love’s fifth-year option. Because that agreement was completed in May, his contract will most likely not be touched again until this May.

The Packers are likely to be open to discussing a new, fair-market contract for Love that compensates him like a true starter. QB trades frequently occur in June or before the start of training camp, and this timeframe makes sense. Love, who is still only 25 years old, is about to receive his first huge payout.

Spotrac estimates Love’s market value at $44.8 million each year ($179.4 million overall) on a new four-year contract.

Love understands the magnitude of being the next in line to succeed Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers, the two MVP and Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks who came before him.

During a radio interview on “The Jim Rome Show” during Super Bowl week in Las Vegas, Love discussed what it means to take up that mantle, which it appears he will do for several seasons.

“Man, being the quarterback for the Green Bay Packers is pretty amazing. It’s the legacy of all the great quarterbacks who came before me, including Aaron and Brett,” Love told Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated.

“Green Bay produces Hall of Fame quarterbacks, and it’s an honor to be able to follow these guys,” Love said. “It obviously holds you to a higher standard, and you want to compete and be the greatest out there, the next great quarterback in Green Bay. But it’s a unique place to be. Green Bay’s fans are special. So I’m enjoying being a part of it and hope to continue the legacy and tradition of outstanding quarterback performance.”

Jordan Love Among Best QBs in NFL in First Season as Starter

Love was brilliant down the stretch of the regular season and into the playoffs, coming up in the most important situations like the great Green Bay quarterbacks who came before him.

The Packers concluded the season 7-3, including three consecutive victories in the final three weeks of the regular season, to claim the final NFC playoff position with a 9-8 record. Love threw just one interception throughout the team’s final eight games before torching the Dallas Cowboys for 272 yards, three touchdowns, and a nearly perfect passer rating on Super Wildcard Weekend.

He struggled harder against the San Francisco 49ers in the Packers’ Divisional Round loss, throwing two interceptions, one of which clinched the loss. Still, Love put an end to any worries about who will captain Green Bay’s attack for the foreseeable future, doing it on the strength of a playoff run following a season in which the quarterback threw for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, and only 11 interceptions.
