Jose Mourinho has recently been linked with the position of next manager of Newcastle United.
Alan Shearer would not support Jose Mourinho replacing Eddie Howe as Newcastle United’s manager.

Mourinho has been regarded as a prospective candidate to take over at St James’ Park following his recent dismissal from AS Roma in Italy. The former Chelsea and Manchester United manager is now looking for his next assignment, but it’s uncertain where he’ll wind up.

According to the most recent odds, Newcastle is Mourinho’s third most likely destination, trailing only Chelsea and any Saudi Pro League club. It is also worth noting that Howe signed a new long-term contract on Tyneside in 2022 and has already underlined his intention to remain at the club.

Shearer spoke on The Rest Is Football Podcast about the possibility of Mourinho taking over as Newcastle’s manager: “He has had a fantastic career, Jose. I am not sure where he will go next. But, no, I’m quite pleased with Eddie Howe’s performance at Newcastle, both past and present.

The Portuguese coach, who has previously been connected with Newcastle in 2021, made it clear to reporters that he had nothing to say about the club. There is absolutely nothing to say.

“The only thing I can say is that for many, many years, I worked with one of the most important individuals in Newcastle’s history, Sir Bobby Robson, and as a result, I’ve always had an emotional connection to the city and its fans. But it’s no more than that.”

Speaking out on speculation that his position may be jeopardized, Howe last month stated, “For me, I don’t involve myself in it. I take myself right away from it. I haven’t been watching a lot of TV, I’ve not been listening to the radio, I’m not on social media. I’m isolating myself away from what’s being talked about, and that’s the healthiest place for me to be.”
