Newcastle United were extensively linked with a January move for RB Leipzig attacker Benjamin Sesko, but the deal never materialized.
Despite reports connecting him to Newcastle United, RB Leipzig attacker Benjamin Sesko claims he wants to stay with the Bundesliga club.
Sesko scored goals for RB Salzburg before joining Leipzig last summer. However, there were suggestions that the Slovenian forward could be on his way out of the club soon after his minutes were reduced.
The 20-year-old has made 19 appearances for the German side, but has only played the full 90 minutes three times. Eddie Howe was said to be preparing a £43 million offer to take Sesko away from Leipzig, but the proposal was not launched during the winter because Newcastle was struggling with Financial Fair Play restraints.
The Magpies are not the only club with an interest in Sesko. Arsenal and Manchester United were also believed to be interested, and their attention was likely to continue throughout the summer transfer season.
However, in an interview with SportBILD, Sesko denied that he wants to transfer to the Premier League or anyplace else for that matter. He stated: “I want to spend a lot of time here [at RB Leipzig] since the club suits me well. We’ll see how many years it takes in total.
Newcastle are expected to look to reinforce their centre-forward position in the summer ahead of the new season. Callum Wilson’s season has been hampered by injury, leaving Alexander Isak as the sole recognised centre-forward in the squad. Howe’s squad returns to Premier League action on Saturday, when they travel to North London to play Arsenal.
