This afternoon, Newcastle United will entertain Wolverhampton Wanderers at St James’ Park in the Premier League.
Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Gary O’Neil is excited for his team’s journey to St James’ Park to face “dangerous” Newcastle United.
Wolves travel to Tyneside one spot and one point ahead of the Magpies in the Premier League standings. Eddie Howe’s side has dropped to tenth place in recent weeks, having collected only 11 points from their previous 12 games.
United’s last home victory came on December 16, the same weekend Wolves suffered their last away defeat. They recently defeated Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea, and O’Neil is looking for another major win.
He said: “I’m really looking forward to Saturday because St James’ Park is an amazing site to go, and it’s a very good test because they throw everything at you.
“They’re really aggressive and hopefully the boys can show once again that we can stand up to good sides and give a real good account of ourselves.”
O’Neil, however, is not reading too much into Newcastle’s recent troubles and believes the return of Alexander Isak, Joe Willock, and Elliot Anderson from injury last week is a “massive plus”.
“They’ve suffered greatly from injuries,” he continued. “I talk about ours, but they’ve only ever been one or two, but given the size of our squad, that always feels like a big deal. Newcastle has suffered far more than that, and many key players have been missing, making things incredibly difficult.
“They’ve had a difficult time, especially with the extra games they’ve had to play in Europe, but a lot of guys are returning now, and [Alexander] Isak is a huge boost for them, so they’ll be a threat. We anticipate to face a very dangerous Newcastle team.”
Wolves and Newcastle shared a 2-2 draw at Molineux earlier this season. The two teams enter the game having won their respective FA Cup fifth round matches against Brighton & Hove Albion and Blackburn Rovers.
