He has struggled since his departure from St James’ Park.
Newcastle United have made tremendous progress under current manager Eddie Howe in the last 18 months, qualifying for the Champions League for the first time in 20 years.

After the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) purchased the Magpies in 2021, the team was able to change from relegation contenders to a regular contender in Europe thanks to their significant investment.

However, business has not always been easy, as despite good arrivals such as Kieran Trippier, there have been some questionable purchases, such the costly spend on the now-banned Sandro Tonali.

However, there have been some sales triumphs, with the Magpies demonstrating their ability to operate on the other side of the transfer market even before the advent of PIF’s wealth.

Ayoze Perez’s stats at Newcastle United

Forward Ayoze Perez joined the Magpies in June 2014, becoming the club’s first permanent signing in more than 18 months after moving from Tenerife for £3 million.

He was a reliable goalscorer for the Magpies during a difficult period for the club both on and off the pitch. The attacker scored seven goals in 36 Premier League games, and Perez quickly found his footing.

He made 34 appearances for the club in the 2015/16 season, however he couldn’t keep the Magpies from relegation to the Championship.

However, Perez remained at St James’ Park and helped the club earn an immediate return to the top division. He appeared 36 times, scoring 16 goals in England’s second tier that season, and the forward was a prominent player under Rafael Benitez.

The club’s fortunes continued to fluctuate over the next few years, with owner Mike Ashley facing criticism from fans for his lack of investment in the transfer market.

Perez’s best season with the Magpies came in his final season, when he scored 12 goals in 37 appearances before signing a lucrative contract with another Premier League club.

Ayoze Perez’s market value in 2024

He left the club in 2019 to join Leicester City for £30 million, with the 25-year-old earning the Magpies £27 million over the course of his five-year contract.

Unfortunately, he failed to make an impact at the King Power Stadium, netting only 15 goals in 114 appearances for the Foxes. Perez only stayed in the East Midlands for two and a half years before returning to Spain during the January transfer window of 2022.

The 30-year-old is now a regular for Real Betis in La Liga, but the Magpies did the right thing by moving Perez when his market worth was at its highest.

Barely under five years after his £30 million move, the attacker’s market value is now barely £6 million, with Perez certainly past his peak form, which he reached when at Newcastle.

The attacker was outstanding during his time on Tyneside, but given his current goal-scoring record, the club did an excellent job in securing such a high amount for the Spaniard.
