Sunderland fans were irritated with a message from Southampton’s official X account.
During their 4-2 victory over Sunderland this weekend, Southampton quickly posted a Newcastle United-related remark.
Sunderland were defeated 4-2 by Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium in the Championship on Saturday, their sixth consecutive loss for the first time since March 2006.
The Black Cats fell behind two goals in the first half, thanks to Stuart Armstrong’s opener and an Adam Armstrong penalty. Sunderland did, however, draw level after the break, with to goals from Romaine Mundle and Jobe Bellingham in a nine-minute span.
Southampton did, however, take the points after substitute Joe Rothwell scored twice from close range to give Russell Martin’s promotion-chasing side the victory. However, after the game, Southampton used social media to rejoice.

The Saints’ media staff chose to tweet a picture of Southampton goalscorer Adam Armstrong, who was born in Newcastle and played for Newcastle United early in his career, with the phrase, ‘Ho’way the lads. Sunderland’s rendition of the well-known North East expression is ‘Ha’way the boys.
Sunderland fans reacted quickly to a tweet from Southampton’s official X account after the game on Saturday. Matt commented, “Absolutely pathetic this lads.”
Gavin, referring to Sunderland’s stunning triumph over Southampton earlier this season, added: “Got beat 5-0, then proceeded to tweet against a team with an average age of 14.” Kris continued: “This is why I actually prefer Portsmouth. “I miss them.”
Joseph went on to say: “Strange thing to do considering they knocked you out a semi-final of a cup not so long ago.”
