Bruno Guimaraes was “struggling to find words” after Newcastle United’s FA Cup exit.
Bruno Guimaraes promised to “save” Newcastle United’s season in the last ten Premier League games.

The Magpies squandered their only chance to win a trophy by falling 2-0 to Manchester City. In truth, few Newcastle fans prayed for the Magpies against a team widely regarded as the finest in the world.

City broke the deadlock after only 13 minutes and, save from a first-half chance by Alexander Isak, were scarcely pushed by the visitors. Newcastle improved after four substitutes, but they still couldn’t beat Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering team.

Defeat destroyed Newcastle’s chances of breaking the silverware curse, extending the club’s domestic drought to seven decades. Eddie Howe was certain after the game that their season is not finished as they hope to finish in the European rankings.

While Champions League qualifying remains uncertain, Newcastle can feasibly qualify for the Conference League and have a slim chance of making the Conference League. Ensuring any type of UEFA competition could be critical in recruiting summer newcomers and, more crucially, retaining current talents on Tyneside.

Transfer Talk, September 9, 2023: Bruno Guimaraes close to signing Newcastle contract extension | LiveScore

Guimaraes, a Toon favourite who signed a new contract in October, hinted to this following the 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest last month. Following Manchester City’s defeat, the Brazilian encouraged supporters on social media, arguing that Newcastle still had a lot to play for.

“Struggling to find words now!” he wrote. “I’m unhappy that we didn’t advance in the FA Cup. We still have 10 Premier League games to preserve the season. We rely on our fans as always.”
