Loris Karius, Newcastle United’s goalkeeper, has indicated that he wants to quit the club to join a Serie A team.
The Italian media claimed earlier this week that he had urged his agent to seek a summer move to Italy, which has now been confirmed by the player himself.
“I want to play more”, Karius told Gazetta Della Sport. “I would like to sign for an Italian club and I have chosen the agency of Claudio Marchisio to represent me.” He went on to say.
Karius joined the Magpies in 2022, but he has only made two appearances, one in the 2023 Carabao Cup final against Manchester United and the other in February’s 4-1 loss to Arsenal.
The 30-year-old’s contract expires in the summer, and he has spent the majority of his career with the club as a third-string goalkeeper behind Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka.
In addition to looking for more game time, the German wants to relocate to Italy to be closer to family members who live there. His partner, Diletta Leotta, gave birth to their first child in August 2023. During his vacations, Karius frequently travels to Italy to visit his family.
