Anthony Gordon is one of Newcastle United’s fastest players, but Jamaal Lascelles believes another guy is also a contender.
Eddie Howe has constructed a very speedy team, with Newcastle United having some fantastic runners. One of them is Joe Willock, whom Alexander Isak believes is the fastest in possession at St James’ Park.
However, he is not the only speedster who wears the iconic black and white stripes. There are plenty other competitors in the race to be Newcastle’s quickest player.
Anthony Gordon is most likely to receive the accolade. After all, he did record the fastest time.
However, Jamaal Lascelles believes Tino Livramento should be included in the discussion.
Lascelles says Livramento is almost as fast as Gordon
Lascelles and Livramento starred in a video on Newcastle United’s official YouTube page, where they were each challenged to select the club’s fastest player right now.
They both chose Gordon, but Lascelles suggested that the defender is also a contender.
“I’d say I’m not the fastest in the squad,” Livramento admitted.
“You’re up there, though,” Lascelles said.
Newcastle signed someone very different to Kieran Trippier
Lascelles is highly appreciative to Livramento and his quickness, which sums up how different he is from Kieran Trippier.
The 21-year-old was signed to be Trippier’s backup, but the two are quite different players. Livramento is athletic and can drive with the ball, whereas Trippier’s main strength is his delivery.
We’ve seen a couple examples of Livramento’s ball speed, including his goal against Wolves and away to Manchester United. It’s evident why Theo Walcott compared him to Gareth Bale so many years ago.
But Livramento isn’t as swift as Gordon, Newcastle’s main speedster. His pace is incredible, and it is a major reason why he is such a fantastic player.
Gordon is now using his pace to score and assist, as he develops into a more complete player – and one who could earn his England debut against Brazil this Saturday.
