Bruno Guimaraes, a Newcastle United midfielder, will face Anthony Gordon as Brazil meet England at Wembley Stadium.
Bruno Guimaraes is expected to start for Brazil against England at Wembley Stadium on Saturday evening (7pm kickoff).
Guimaraes might meet Newcastle United teammate Anthony Gordon, who will be looking to earn his first England cap in the friendly.
According to Globo Esporte, Guimaraes will be named to manager Dorival Junior’s first Brazilian starting lineup this weekend. Brazil has been preparing for the match at Arsenal’s training site this week, with Dorival Junior revealing his starting lineup. Guimaraes will start in a Premier League midfield trio alongside West Ham United’s Lucas Paqueta and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Joao Gomes, who might make his senior debut for Brazil. Globo Esporte also reported that Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz was ‘tried’ in the side in place of Joao Gomes during the practice.
Newcastle is one of just four teams with players in both camps going into the match. The other three are Real Madrid (Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr, and Rodrygo), Tottenham Hotspur (Richarlison and James Maddison), and West Ham United (Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen).
Guimaraes told reporters during a pre-match press conference that no one at the club deserves to be in the England squad more than Gordon, who has been incredible for us, always scoring and providing assists. He deserves to be there, and he’s a nice guy, so I’m delighted for him.
“I hope he can get some minutes in the England squad and for me, playing against him will be massive for us both and the club as well.”
