Anthony Gordon has had a tremendous season with Newcastle United.
Gordon has been regarded as one of the Premier League’s top players this season, despite initially struggling following a £40 million move from Everton.
Indeed, the 23-year-old is allegedly likely to make his England debut against Brazil at Wembley Stadium on Saturday night, as his individual season continues to improve.
Gordon has gained valuable experience during this campaign. He’s more than found his feet in the Premier League and has played Champions League games for the first time in his career.
A driving force for Newcastle this season, it’s hard to imagine where the squad would be without his fast growth.
Gordon has had a tremendous turnaround. The sight of him arguing with Fabian Schar and Kieran Trippier at St James’ Park while still an Everton player makes him appear to be a different person, such is his newfound love for Tyneside.
Now, Gordon has revealed what he is known as among Eddie Howe’s squad.
Anthony Gordon shares his two nicknames amongst the Newcastle squad
Gordon revealed his nicknames while speaking with another possible England debutant Kobbie Mainoo in a YouTube video broadcast by the official England channel.
“I’ll give you one that people call me at Newcastle,” that’s what he said.
“Some call me ‘Tony G’. Or ‘Gordy’. “I like ‘Tony G’!”
Anthony Gordon: Newcastle star deserves England debut
It will be amazing to see Gordon make his England debut, whether starting or coming on as a substitute.
The winger has been a bright spot for the team in an otherwise challenging season, and he more than deserves his call-up.
His performances in major games this season have been so impressive, with goals against Liverpool and Manchester City, as well as victories against Manchester United and Arsenal, that it is not surprising to see him start strong.
