Newcastle United has had a tough season, and no one will be more frustrated than Eddie Howe. The manager has watched his team drop from the Champions League to mid-table oblivion.

Howe shone throughout his first 18 months at Newcastle. Taking the club from definite relegation to safety and upward mobility in the League. The following season, they finished in the top four in the Premier League.

Newcastle started the season well. Taking PSG, Dortmund, and Milan to the wire. However, injuries have taken their toll, and Newcastle lacked the depth to maintain its performance.

Out of the group stages, although cruelly, and currently ranked tenth in the Premier League. They still have a chance of qualifying for Europe in some capacity, whether through the Europa League or the Conference.

Sam Allardyce discusses Eddie Howe speculation at Newcastle

Howe outperformed in his first full season as Newcastle’s manager. Back to reality, there is concern that he may be fired by Newcastle’s board, which includes the Saudi Arabia PIF and Amanda Staveley.

Indeed, reports suggest that Newcastle could make a change, and the club is being connected with potential replacements in the summer. However, it would be extremely tough on Howe, who has previously dealt with ailments.

Sam Allardyce discussed the claims on the latest episode of The No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, saying he hopes the rumours about Howe’s sacking are not accurate given his injuries.

“Eddie Howe never had a squad capable of competing in the Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, or League. “Now they are where they are because the squad was not large enough,” Allardyce said of Howe.

“As usual, there is speculation because he hasn’t had a particularly successful season. I hope the owners, or anyone else, aren’t considering replacing him just yet,” the former Toon manager continued.

If Newcastle decides to proceed without Howe, they could reportedly turn to Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi as their manager. De Zerbi has also been connected with the Liverpool position.

Even Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann is rumored to be interested in Newcastle, but this seems improbable considering Nagelsmann’s involvement in Euro 2024 this summer. However, Howe should stay.

He should have earned enough credit to stay at Newcastle and be given the opportunity to lead the Toon back to the top six in 2024-25. Failure to do so necessitates a decision.
