Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Juventus star Federico Chiesa and are willing to pay more than €60 million for his services.
According to the Spanish publication Fichajes, a number of Premier League clubs, including Newcastle United, are interested in signing Juventus winger Federico Chiesa in 2024.
The Magpies have had a rough season, failing to impress in both the Premier League and the Champions League, and injuries have hampered their progress. It is clear that many new additions will be necessary once the summer transfer market opens, and recent rumors suggest that owners PIF may already be looking to bring in reinforcements.
In what was one of last summer’s more speculative transfer links, there are mounting claims that Newcastle United are interested in Juventus wide-man Federico Chiesa, who may be looking for a new challenge once the current season ends.
The 26-year-old Italian international is in his second season with the Serie A giants, but his contract expires in the summer of 2025.
While the Italian club hopes to sign Chiesa to a new long-term contract, there is suspicion that they may be forced to sell him to recoup important finances after missing out on Champions League participation this season.
Amidst the talk, Newcastle have expressed an interest in having Chiesa join fellow Italian international Sandro Tonali at St James’ Park next season.
Newcastle to make Federico Chiesa their priority summer target
According to Fichajes, the Magpies have already drawn up a €60 million bid to get the pacey winger out of his contract with Juventus this summer.
He has been an important player for his team and Italy in recent years, helping the latter win the European Championships in 2021.
However, a cruciate ligament damage in January 2022 hampered the 26-year-old’s growth significantly. He has struggled with minor injuries since then, so the Toon medical department will need to perform their due diligence on the repeating injury issue.
When fit and blazing, Chiesa is one of the best footballers in the world. At 26 years old, he could still have a lot more to offer, with his best years likely ahead.
It’s unclear Newcastle will be able to facilitate that amount of money right now due to financial fair play restrictions, but with out-of-form winger Miguel Almiron linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, there may be some wiggle room.
