Newcastle United will try to sign a new centre-back during the summer transfer window following Sven Botman’s injury.
Botman is projected to miss up to nine months, which means he will miss a significant amount of activity next season. Furthermore, he would need time to return to his prior form following a lengthy injury layoff.
It makes sense for Newcastle to invest on new defenders during the summer transfer window. After a poor 2023-24 season, the Magpies may be prepared for a rebuilding effort, but the major problem is adhering to FFP restrictions.
Eddie Howe may be forced to sell some of his best players next summer to raise the funds required to make new acquisitions. Newcastle appear to be willing to invest in young players with the potential to become world-beaters in the future.
According to De Telegraaf, Newcastle are interested in signing Juventus’ teenage defender Dean Huijsen, who is presently on loan at Roma.
Newcastle United main candidate to sign Dean Huijsen
The Magpies have emerged as one of the “main candidates” to recruit the 18-year-old defender. Borussia Dortmund, the German football powerhouse, is also interested in signing him.
He is regarded as a potential successor to Mats Hummels, and Newcastle want him to replace the injured Botman. Huijsen has a contract with Juventus until 2028, but he may leave if he is not given enough playing time.
The defender joined AS Roma on loan for the remainder of the season, and he has impressed greatly. There are reports that Juventus could sell Huijsen in exchange for Teun Koopmeiners.
He would cost roughly £25 million, and it would be intriguing to see if the Magpies are willing to spend that much for his signing. Huijsen appears to be a tremendous young talent, but he lacks experience.
