Paul Merson believes Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United will secure a crucial three points against West Ham in tomorrow’s early kickoff.
The Sky Sports expert believes Newcastle have “got to start somewhere when it comes to winning trophies” and that any European spot would be significant to keep us on track, as FFP has shown that a major cash injection is no longer the path to greatness it once was.
It’s a big game since West Ham are presently four points ahead of us and in the final European slot (7th), but a win would move us within a point of the Hammers with a game in hand. It feels like a pivotal moment in our season, and Merson expects us to win 2-1.
He told Sportskeeda that Newcastle and West Ham had to start somewhere when it came to winning trophies. If it means fighting for a European slot, they must work hard and focus on earning the proper results, particularly in matches like this.
“With the fair play regulations in place, teams are learning that they can’t rely only on a large cash injection to catapult them to victory. We expected that receiving all of that money would significantly assist Newcastle United turn things around, but that has not been the case.
“Newcastle are now 10th in the Premier League table and need to start picking up points. They have had numerous injuries, as do most other teams. Newcastle may not be comfortable in this game, but I believe they will win.
“Prediction: Newcastle United 2-0 West Ham United”
