Newcastle United will be without Anthony Gordon when Everton visits on Tuesday night.
Newcastle United finished their chaotic win over West Ham with only ten men on the field after referee Rob Jones showed Anthony Gordon a red card. Gordon, who had won two penalties and assisted Harvey Barnes’ late winner, will now miss the game against his former club Everton on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old entered the game with eight yellow cards and was two bookings away from a two-match suspension. Gordon, on the other hand, remains on eight bookings and will serve a one-game ban on Tuesday night due to his red card.
It was a red card that caught everyone by surprise at St James’ Park, including the player himself: “I tapped the ball away. How much you want to look into that… it’s truly remarkable.” Gordon stated.
“To be sent off for tapping a ball five yards. To be honest, I believe he scheduled me because he was unaware that he had already booked me. To be completely honest, that is not good enough.

“I’m not going to whine about referees because they have a job to do. They are the rules, so he is following the game’s rules and laws, yet it is ludicrous.”
It was an unusual finale to a hectic few weeks for Gordon, who earned his full England debut against Brazil during the international break. With one eye on getting into Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad, Gordon will be eager to impress between now and the end of the season – but will have to watch from the stands on Tuesday night, much to his chagrin. “That’s why missing a game is going to be a killer for me, I just want to keep playing,” he said. “I do not want this form or emotion to go away. It will be difficult to watch from the stands, but, as I already stated, I am confident in the players surrounding me.
Newcastle United finished Saturday in eighth place in the table, closing the distance to West Ham to just one point, with Everton, Fulham, and Tottenham Hotspur to play in the next three games.
