Gus Malzahn may see his last two Auburn football starters, Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham, compete for the Denver Broncos’ starting quarterback position in 2024.
According to DraftKings Sportsbook (h/t Mile High Report), Denver has the greatest odds and the only minus odds (-150) to land Nix, with the Minnesota Vikings having the next highest odds at +400. Of course, Stidham is the Broncos’ current starter after the team released Russell Wilson and his huge contract during the offseason.
A fight of two former Tigers transfers — Stidham incoming from Baylor and Nix outbound to Oregon — might lead Denver’s training camp, though neither Nix nor Stidham is expected to be Sean Payton’s long-term quarterback.
Not that what analysts believe is important. If on-field results were secondary to “expert” opinions, JaMarcus Russell and Sam Bradford would be first-ballot Hall-of-Famers today, and Tom Brady would not be regarded as the sport’s unquestioned G.O.A.T.
Bo Nix defended his Auburn football career before start of NFL career
Before entering the NFL, Bo wanted to disprove a common misconception about his time on the Plains: that he struggled at Auburn and only took off once he joined Dan Lanning’s Oregon Ducks.
“I think sometimes it’s forgotten that at Auburn we had some really good seasons, but I think overall that is something that is just in the back of people’s minds,” Nix remarked during a conversation with Ryen Russillo. “But fortunately, there’s always something next and something else to go out there and do, and thank goodness that however people think, whatever opinions they have of Auburn, it doesn’t define who I am.”
Nix preferred his time with Malzahn to his replacement — we’ll keep the name private for anyone who is having a bad day and doesn’t want it to become worse — but he isn’t embarrassed to have ever been an Auburn Tiger.
