Alexander Isak has committed his future to Newcastle United, stating that he “came here for the project” and is not interested in discussing a possible move away.
The Swede has the Premier League’s highest minutes-per-goal ratio this season, with 0.85 goals per 90 minutes compared to Haaland’s 0.80 and Salah’s 0.75, and his spectacular finish last night brought his season total to 19.
Speaking to the press following yesterday night’s draw with Everton, the 24-year-old said this about his future amid links to Arsenal and PSG:
“Yes, of course, I hope to be here in the future. I came here for the assignment, and I truly love playing here; I feel at home. I want to finish the season on a positive note for both myself and the team. “I love playing here.”
“I don’t want to entertain such queries and speculations. It is not my position. I enjoy playing; we have significant games, and there is no focus (on my future); all I want is to do well for the team.
“We want Europe; that is our goal. We want to finish as high as possible, so we must be positive in that regard. We need to keep winning games, and we’ll see what positions are open.”
Replacing top strikers is one of the most difficult tasks in football, and someone of Isak’s caliber and potential is precisely the type of guy we should be building our squad around rather than selling.
Brilliant remarks from the Swede, and statements that will improve emotions on Tyneside after losing two points on Tuesday.
