Newcastle United injuries: Eddie Howe hopes his team has no further injury problems following Saturday’s 4-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe has provided an update on Jacob Murphy, who limped off during Newcastle’s 4-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at St James’ Park.
Murphy moved awkwardly and was replaced in the 78th minute with the score at 3-0 after two goals from Alexander Isak and one from Anthony Gordon. Tino Livramento replaced Murphy, and Fabian Schar scored with a header late in the game.
And, with Newcastle’s injury crisis expected to last until the end of the season, Howe believes his team avoided any setbacks in the win over Tottenham.
When asked if Murphy was okay after limping off, the Magpies’ manager responded, “Yeah, I hope so.” I think he had a cramp. “I don’t believe it is an injury.”
Livramento’s comeback from an ankle injury was a boon for Newcastle, who are still missing numerous players owing to injuries. However, with only 10 days until their next Premier League match, Howe will be expecting to see some more players return.
Nick Pope, Miguel Almiron, Joe Willock, and Kieran Trippier all reportedly close to returning. Callum Wilson, Joelinton, Lewis Miley, and Matt Targett will all be hoping to return before the end of the season, while Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles, and Sandro Tonali will not play again until next season.
Botman and Lascelles have been ruled out until late 2024 due to ACL injuries, while Tonali is presently serving a betting ban that is slated to expire in August.
