Amanda Staveley, Newcastle United’s co-owner, has spent some time away from Tyneside this week.
Newcastle United is now on a 10-day vacation from Premier League play, and co-owner Amanda Staveley has taken advantage of the opportunity to relax in Saudi Arabia.
Staveley was at St James’ Park for Saturday’s 4-0 triumph over Champions League-chasing Tottenham Hotspur, which gave Newcastle back-to-back league victories for the first time since December and moved them up to sixth in the Premier League rankings.
Just over 24 hours later, Staveley’s busy Newcastle United weekend continued when she went to Kingston Park to watch the Women win the National League Northern Premier Division title and gain promotion to the Championship.
Staveley and her husband, Mehrdad Ghodoussi, are frequent visitors to the Middle East, where they have developed significant relationships. Staveley brokered the Public Investment Fund’s 80% ownership of the Magpies in October 2021, with her Cantervale Limited company and Jamie Reuben’s RB Sports & Media combining for a 20% share.
PIF’s offices are in Riyadh, but Staveley’s most recent trip this week took her to the eastern city of Khobar to see Saudi First Division leaders Al Qadsiah FC.
The Ripon-born financer shared her journey with her Instagram followers, wearing Al Qadsiah’s colours with ‘Staveley 1’ on the back of the jersey and participating in archery, among other activities. She included a photo of a camel and joked, “My ride back to Newcastle… it beats transferring through Dubai International 🐫”.
Staveley reflected on the trip as a whole, saying, “I loved our stay this week with @alqadsiahg. “A fantastic and memorable night!”
Staveley is on his way back to Tyneside, where Eddie Howe’s side is preparing for their Premier League trip to Crystal Palace on Wednesday. And, of course, the co-owner will be in attendance at Selhurst Park as Newcastle battles for European qualifying.
