TBR Football understands Newcastle United is ready to begin contract negotiations with star scorer Alexander Isak.

Alexander Isak has four years left on his present contract, but he is not among the highest earners, and TBR can reveal that he, like his teammates, is poised to face a further wage decrease.

Sources have confirmed to TBR that former sports director Dan Ashworth, who is presently on gardening leave from Newcastle ahead of a move to Manchester United, invoked a clause that would result in a wage decrease if the team failed to qualify for the Champions League.

Newcastle ready to open contract talks with Alexander Isak

Alexander Isak could be one of the surprising aims of the Barça for this summer

Now that this has occurred, Newcastle’s players face the threat of losing up to 20% of their salary, which, in Isak’s case, is a devastating blow following a spectacular season for The Magpies.

Newcastle are now prepared to reward Isak with a wage boost, bringing him on pace with Bruno Guimaraes as the club’s top earner.

Isak’s form has piqued the interest of a number of clubs around Europe, and TBR sources indicate that Arsenal are confirmed admirers of the Swedish star, having been since his time at Borussia Dortmund.

A perfect way for Magpies to kick off their summer plans

It would be a significant message if Newcastle could persuade Isak to sign a new deal in the near future. Eddie Howe has claimed that Isak has the potential to be a football great.
His record on Tyneside is fantastic, especially given his troubles with Borussia Dortmund and his relatively quiet final season with Real Sociedad.

If Newcastle did sell Isak, they may expect to get a large money. However, replacing him may be incredibly tough given how well he has settled at St James’ Park over the last 18 months and how much he has yet to improve.

It would be a terrific start to their summer if they could announce that Isak has committed to the Magpies for what may be his best years yet.
