Wolves have denied that their players are among the two Premier League footballers arrested in connection with an alleged rape.
Two players, both 19, were released on bond after being quizzed by police about the alleged incident.
The two play for the same club, which declined to comment on the original charges.
“Officers arrested two men after receiving a report of rape,” a police official said.
“A 19-year-old guy has been arrested on accusations of assault and aiding and abetting rape. A second 19-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of rape.
“Both men have now been released on police bail.”
Following widespread online speculation, Wolves have issued a statement denying that any of its players are engaged in the alleged rape investigation.
The statement read: “A newspaper article published yesterday sparked unwarranted internet speculation about the identity of two people reportedly under police investigation.
“Whilst we would not typically comment on ongoing police matters, in order to protect the welfare of our young players, we feel it is necessary to confirm that the allegations to not relate to anyone at Wolves.”

The Sun reported that the two players at the center of the altercation had been suspended by their club.
The same publication reported the alleged rape occurred on Friday night, with the accused victim contacting police hours later and filing a formal complaint.
In 2022, the Premier League made sexual consent training mandatory for all players and staff.
This came after a succession of high-profile events involving top-tier football players.
The courses were designed to promote healthy, respectful relationships and included training on harassment and consent.
