According to Fabrizio Romano, Bruno Guimaraes’ £100 million release clause will only be valid for one month at the start of the summer transfer season.
He has stated that the clause will only be valid from the last week of May to the beginning of the last week of June. After that window closes, Newcastle will have ‘complete control of price and prospective discussions’ in July and August.
The club has been very cunning in their discussions about Bruno’s release clause, which was included in a new contract signed by the Brazilian last year. Not only would we have plenty of time to find a replacement if he left early in the window, but the £100 million received would arrive just before the PSR cut-off on June 30th, providing us the freedom to spend in the next fiscal year.
Of course, in an ideal world, the Brazilian midfielder would stay in the North East for many years, but the terms of his release clause appear to benefit us nonetheless.

Few clubs would commit to a £100 million deal this early in the window, especially with the PSR deadline just around the horizon, so this is encouraging news in our effort to keep the 26-year-old on Tyneside for at least another season.
