Bruno Guimaraes, Newcastle United’s centre-midfielder, is one of the greatest in the Premier League.
However, he is not one of the most costly, with the 26-year-old costing the Magpies approximately £40 million in January 2022. It was one of Newcastle United’s most expensive signings, but not in terms of the entire Premier League.
Chelsea have spent far more on players in the same position, paying more than £100 million each for Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, with the latter being linked with a transfer to Tyneside before joining the Blues. We had no chance, given that he cost £115 million!
Fernandez cost little less, coming at Stamford Bridge for £107 million. He arrived as a World Cup winner, but hasn’t done anythingbut has not done much to prove why he was worthy of all the hype.
The Argentina international has been a member of Chelsea’s sluggish and expensively formed squad, and he has yet to demonstrate why he cost so much money, as have many of his teammates.
Bruno Guimaraes vs Enzo Fernandez
But who would you rather have on your team: Bruno Guimaraes or Enzo Fernandez? Former Aston Villa forward Gabby Agbonlahor has given his response.
He spoke with Alan Brazil on TalkSPORT about the Newcastle United midfielder, comparing him to Enzo Fernandez and analyzing the Brazilian’s importance.
Brazil: “I’ll tell you what, Guimaraes; it appears Newcastle may be losing him. Don’t get me wrong, Newcastle is a big club, but I feel he may be speaking with PSG.
Agbonlahor: “I did see his release clause of £100 million.” “I don’t think he’s going for that much.”
Brazil says, “No, no, no.” I like him a lot, but not £100 million. “No chance.”
Agbonlahor: “Or, who do you prefer between Guimaraes and Enzo Fernandez? “I’m taking Guimaraes all day.”
Bruno Guimaraes has had a much bigger impact in the Premier League
Brazil’s claims come after a TalkSPORT story reported that Bruno’s representatives have held talks with Paris Saint-Germain about a move back to France. Neither Brazil nor Agbonlahor believe the 26-year-old is worth £100 million, which is how much teams must pay to sign him this summer. However, Agbonlahor has admitted that Bruno is better than Fernandez, who cost around that just over a year ago.
In either case, I believe the majority of people would prefer the Brazilian over the Argentinian. He has made a considerably greater impact in the Premier League and is the type of player who would likely start for any top-tier club. Even the top two are interested, with Manchester City and Arsenal hoping to capture Bruno this summer.
