Crystal Palace have expressed interest in signing Leicester City’s Nigerian midfielder this summer.

According to the South London Press, Crystal Palace is leading the race to recruit Wilfred Ndidi, the Nigerian midfielder from Leicester City. The 27-year-old’s contract with the Foxes expires in the summer, and several Premier League clubs have expressed interest in him.

According to the source, the Eagles boss is eager to increase competitiveness and expand his choices ahead of what could be a key season for the club, as they strive to finish in the top half of the season and demonstrate ambition under manager Oliver Glasner.

Ndidi has made 271 appearances with the Foxes, scoring 17 goals and providing 17 assists since coming from Genk in 2017.

The Eagles already have youthful Adam Wharton, who joined the club in February from Championship side Blackburn and has started every game under their Austrian manager. Cheick Doucoure, who has barely played this season owing to a knee injury, is likely to return at the start of next season, while Will Hughes, Joel Ward, Nathan Ferguson, and James Tomkins can all play central midfield.

However, Ndidi has Premier League experience and was hailed as the natural replacement for N’Golo Kante when he originally arrived at the King Power Stadium in 2017.

Eagles flying at the moment

The Eagles have won their previous three games, defeating Liverpool at Anfield, West Ham United at Selhurst, and Europa League-chasing Newcastle United.

The impact new boss Glasner has had in recent days has increased expectations and lifted spirits ahead of the season’s closing stretch.

They play Fulham this Saturday as favourites to win all three points, despite the fact that their improved form may have come too late for them to get into the top half of what has been a difficult but promising season in south London.
