Paul Merson has given his prediction for Everton’s Premier League match against Brentford at Goodison Park on Saturday, April 27.

The Toffees have all but clinched their Premier League membership for next season after defeating Liverpool 2-0 in midweek, while Brentford defeated Luton 5-1 last weekend in their last game.

Merson commended Sean Dyche and his staff for turning the situation around after the team was “pummelled” by Chelsea and predicted a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park in his Sportskeeda predictions (26 April).

“I have all the respect in the world for Everton,” remarked the Spaniard. “They were completely pummeled 6-0 by Chelsea the other day, but they rallied with consecutive 2-0 victories over Nottingham Forest and archrivals Liverpool.

“Congratulations to Sean Dyche, his players, and the coaching staff for coming up when it meant the most; they are now genuinely secure.

“Brentford has turned a turnaround and is unbeaten in their previous five games, so this should be an entertaining match. Everton 1–1 Brentford.”

Everton are not safe from relegation yet

It may be as close to a done deal as possible, but it isn’t, and Everton can’t afford to act as if they are already safe.

Football is a strange game, and stranger things have happened than the Toffees being relegated from this circumstance, but they are now in a great position to remain a Premier League club.

Brentford have little to play for this season after securing their own safety, and the Merseyside fans will be ecstatic following the events of the previous week.

If they can create another loud atmosphere to drive the players over the finish line for a positive result, safety will be ensured, and the campaign’s remaining games can be a party.

Merson hasn’t always been adamant that the club would avoid relegation, and a win this weekend will allow the players to show him wrong twice in a row.

In other Everton news, Carragher and Wright disagreed on their predictions for the match versus Brentford.
