The Los Angeles Dodgers improved their depth this week by trading for veteran utility player Cavan Biggio from the Toronto Blue Jays.
In order to acquire Biggio, the Dodgers traded minor-league reliever Braydon Fisher to Toronto. As part of the trade, the LA team received monetary consideration.
So far in 2024, Biggio has batted.200 with two home runs, nine RBIs, and two stolen bases in 44 games, a career low. The Blue Jays designated Biggio for assignment last week due to his dismal performances.
However, it appears that the Dodgers believe Biggio can be a valuable addition to their star-studded squad, and that they can use him more effectively than the Blue Jays did.
“A lot of emotions that I sat and went through and processed,” Biggio told reporters after signing with the Dodgers. “I put myself in a good position to make my next step forward being here, so I’m excited about it.”
Cavan Biggio, the son of Hall of Famer Craig Biggio, was selected in the fifth round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Blue Jays. Biggio made his MLB debut in 2019 and has since played 490 games with Toronto, batting.227 with 48 home runs, 176 RBIs, and 32 stolen bases.
