Syracuse, New York — Defensive lineman Quante Gillians, the No. 6 prospect in New York according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, committed to Syracuse on Sunday.

Prior to declaring his commitment to the Orange on social media, the Rochester-area product and Aquinas Institute player was the highest-ranked uncommitted talent in New York.

Gillians is ranked as a three-star recruit in the Class of 2025 by 247 Sports, with a composite ranking of No. 956 in the country and No. 92 as a defensive line prospect.

Gillians is ranked as the No. 4 prospect in New York by 247 Sports and Rivals, respectively. 247 Sports lists his height as 6-foot-4 and weight as 278 pounds.

During his recruitment, Gillians had offers from Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Boston College, West Virginia, and Minnesota, according to 247Sports.

According to his social media, Gillians has visited Syracuse, Pittsburgh, and Boston College. He postponed a scheduled trip to Minnesota earlier this month.

Gillians helped Aquinas end last season 6-4. Gillians finished with 10.5 sacks and 27 tackles, according to MaxPreps.com.

Gillians’ pledge follows a pattern in which Syracuse has been the preferred destination for the majority of the state’s best prospects in the Class of 2025. Syracuse has commitments from five of New York’s top ten recruits, according to 247 Sports.

No other school has more than one. Rutgers, Penn State, and Clemson have one apiece.

Verbal promises are non-binding until a player signs a National Letter of Intent.

The Orange has 22 verbal commitments. This comprises a four-star and 21 three-star prospects.

Only Rutgers (25) has more verbal commitments in the Power-Fou for the Class of 2025. Minnesota is tied for second place with Syracuse.

Syracuse’s Class of 2025 commitments are presently rated 15th in the country per the 247 Sports composite rankings.
