Crews is now just one step away from his Major League Baseball debut.
Dylan Crews was taken with the second choice in the 2023 MLB Draft after an outstanding career and season at LSU. In 2023, he batted.426 with an on-base percentage of.567, helping the Tigers win the national championship. Crews had 18 home runs, 70 RBIs, and scored 100 runs. He was selected the Golden Spikes Award winner.
The 22-year-old spent the whole 2024 season with the Harrisburg Senators, the Nationals’ Double-A affiliate. He is now hitting.274 with five home runs and 38 RBIs on the year. Crews has recently performed exceptionally well, hitting.298 in May and.283 in June.
Paul Skenes starring with Pittsburgh Pirates
While Dylan Crews continues to work his way up to Major League Baseball, his old LSU colleague Paul Skenes is already functioning at an outstanding level with the Pirates.
Skenes was promoted to Pittsburgh in May and has performed admirably thus far.
Skenes has a 3-0 record and a 2.43 ERA heading into Monday’s game against the Reds. Over the course of six starts, the righty has 46 strikeouts in 33 1/3 innings. Skene also has a WHIP of 0.96.
Before last year’s draft, LSU baseball coach Jay Johnson spoke about Skenes and Dylan Crews, describing them as great talents. Skenes went first overall to the Pirates, and Crews got second overall to the Nationals.
“It’ll be pretty special,” Johnson said of his two stars’ selections. “Obviously, it’s all about the team.” But I have a different perspective on things. Obviously, we want to win, especially championships. But how we do it is very essential to me, and you accomplish that through development.
“To have Dylan and Paul, or Paul and Dylan, as the first two picks in the draft?” It is something I am very proud of them for. They are excellent players who deserve to be selected up there. And they are Hall of Fame members. Whatever team acquires them will have a new organization instantly. Not only because of the talent they’re bringing in, but also because of the individual.”
