The San Diego Padres could be in a slump following their series against the Philadelphia Phillies. They may have won their last game 5-2, but winning only four of their last ten games hasn’t helped. Mike Shildt desperately needs Yu Darvish and Joe Musgrove to return. Will they be returning to the squad before the four-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers?
Is Yu Darvish playing against the Brewers?
Mike Shildt is quite optimistic that two of his Padres system stars will return. The manager stated that they aim to have a solid homestand against the Brewers, but Yu Darvish will most likely not be joining them just yet. Shildt mentioned how the pitcher has been performing in his most recent comments to 97.3 The Fan.
“The next time he pitches, he’ll be starting for us. We’re not sure about the day yet; we’ll see how he rebounds from yesterday. Our initial reports were A) healthy and B) very good. So that was encouraging. We’re simply trying to figure out where we’re going to fit him in,” Mike Shildt stated.
Darvish is experiencing some discomfort in his left groin. The Padres pitcher did undergo a rehab trip with their High-A affiliate, throwing 49 pitches. He scored six runs over three and one-third innings. While this isn’t his best productivity, he appears to be in good health. As a result, an expected return might come when the Padres face the Washington Nationals following their homestand against the Brewers.
The pitcher has not played in the majors since sustaining an injury during a game against the Miami Marlins. This activation by the IL could indicate that the Padres will be able to make a run in the future games.
Padres’ situation with Joe Musgrove
Shildt provided updates on more than just Darvish. Musgrove has been battling from inflammation in his right elbow. According to recent sources, this is all due to a bone spur that was causing him so much pain. His injury recovery appears to have begun, and he might return to the Padres system in the latter half of August.
“Joe will start doing things like ball catch in the next several days, and then we’ll see. So, there’s nothing new about Joe,” the Padres manager said.
Joe Musgrove used plyometric balls in his most recent exercise with the Padres. Despite his positive attitude toward his condition, the staff and the squad’s medical team may want to exercise caution because the soreness he is experiencing is in his right triceps. Throwing while experiencing that can undoubtedly create significant long-term damage to one’s body and career.
Fernando Tatis Jr. is also having some tightness in his right quad and stated that he is not feeling well. Shildt and the Padres may have to look into that before their games against the Brewers. The NL West club has struggled with injuries.
