Caitlin Clark fell one rebound short of the WNBA’s first rookie triple-double on Sunday. She almost completed the feat while suffering from a migraine.

Even when she isn’t feeling well, Caitlin Clark can put up outstanding numbers. On Sunday, the Indiana Fever rookie guard came one rebound shy of a triple-double while playing with a migraine headache.

Clark ended Sunday’s game against the Phoenix Mercury with 15 points, 12 assists, and nine rebounds. She was virtually the first WNBA rookie to get a triple-double in league history.

While that success will have to wait, the Fever defeated the Mercury 88-82. Clark did not attend the postgame press conference. Indiana coach Christie Sides stated that the rookie wasn’t feeling well throughout the game.

“She didn’t feel well throughout the entire game,” she said. “She’s with her trainer right now.”

Chloe Peterson of the Indianapolis Star later reported that Clark was suffering from a migraine headache. It is something she has dealt with throughout her basketball career.

Clark now has a double-double in two of her past three games, following her effort on Sunday. The Fever have also won five out of their past seven contests.

Following the game, Mercury star and former WNBA MVP Diana Taurasi praised Clark’s play this season.

“I mean, it’s amazing what Caitlin’s been able to do in her short career so far — just been nothing short of remarkable,” Taurasi told CNN. “One thing I truly like about her is that she enjoys playing games. You can tell she’s worked hard. Even though she has faced a lot of pressure and had a lot of things thrown at her in her brief WNBA career, she has continued to show up and improve with each game.

“Her future is extremely bright.” Being a veteran and having been in this league for a long time, it’s quite cool to witness that and think about the future.”

Clark is averaging 16.2 points, 6.9 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game this season. Indiana owns an 8-12 record and sits at fourth in the Eastern Conference standings.
