Hugh Freeze was licking his chops as he discussed Oklahoma’s inaugural football game versus Auburn at Jordan-Hare Stadium at an AMBUSH event held by the Willow Point Country Club in Alexander City, Alabama.
“You’re adding two of the elite programs in the country to this already-difficult — what I think is the best — conference in America,” Freeze said of Texas and Oklahoma on their second official day in the SEC (source: AL.com). “It makes things difficult, but it’s also exciting, which is why you want to play in this league as a coach or a player.
“I believe Jordan-Hare will provide (Oklahoma) with a significant challenge. I wish they would acquire Jordan-Hare’s night version. But Jordan-Hare will be rocking nonetheless, and I believe they will appreciate it.
Since the Sooners joined the conference, their showdown with the Tigers has been a heated topic of conversation. It’s not unexpected, though, given that this will be Oklahoma’s first appearance on an SEC field as an in-conference guest.
Sooners beat reporters befuddled at what Oklahoma-Auburn football matchup will bring
Eddie Radosevich and George Stoia of Sooner Scoop appeared on The Andy Staples Show and expressed their confusion about what OU will face when they arrive on the Plains on September 28.
“It’s huge, Andy, and we don’t know what to make of Auburn,” Stoia told the crowd. “I believe they will be quite solid defensively and overall in their second year under Hugh Freeze. So, that is a big one.”
It’s understandable to be concerned about whether Payton Thorne will hold down the quarterback job in year two. However, the talent surrounding him has been significantly improved, so Tiger fans who have been in a three-year dark period and simply want to witness some winning football should be optimistic.
