The Wolfpack has signed Makhi Williams-Lee, a 6-foot-2, 280-pound nose tackle from Atlanta (Ga.) Lakeside. He is the third defensive line commit in the class, following Palm Coast (Fla.) defensive end Colby Cronk and Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage nose tackle Omarian Abraham.

Lee’s recruiting increased in late spring. The Lakeside defender received double-digit offers in May alone. Ultimately, he paid formal visits Arizona State on June 7-9, Oklahoma on June 14-16, and Texas Tech on June 21-23. Shortly after completing the excursions, Williams-Lee chose the Pack and made it public on July 10th.

State was one of several colleges that offered Williams-Lee last month, and he was immediately impressed by the Wolfpack.

“First, all the success they had there,” Williams-Lee stated a few weeks back. “Also, the coaching staff.” Coach (Charley) Wiles remains in contact with me. And I’ve seen their history of generating defensive lineman. All of these are reasons I want to visit — and maybe even be a part of it.

Once State made the decision, Wiles, who is an excellent recruiter, worked fast to establish rapport with Williams-Lee. The senior assistant left a positive impact on the Florida State prospect.

“He’s a good guy,” Williams-Lee said in early June. “He always checks on me. And I enjoy his demeanor and enthusiasm. He appears to be a truly unique individual. He has said he can’t wait for me to get up there, so I’m looking forward to the visit.

“He’s been recruiting me hard, and you can see he means what he says. He’s told me he likes my take-off and speed. “He notices me playing nose and edge.”

Williams-Lee had a tremendous junior season, recording 77 tackles, including 22 for loss and 10 sacks, four quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.

According to 247Sports, he is a high-three-star prospect and the nation’s No. 76 defensive lineman.
