Caitlin Clark has always held a special place in her heart for former Minnesota Lynx forward Maya Moore. Clark stated at a recent press conference that Moore is her biggest WNBA idol, something many people already know given Clark’s history of supporting the Lynx, the WNBA team closest to where she grew up.

“If you would have told me that as a young kid, I would be playing in the game that [Moore’s] jersey gets retired at, it’s very full circle for me,” Clark informed the crowd. “She was my favorite player growing up, and I enjoyed watching her. I still think of her as being similar to my childhood LeBron James.

The Lynx will retire Moore’s jersey during a pregame ceremony at Target Center on August 24, which also happens to be the day Minnesota plays Clark’s Fever. Moore, a four-time WNBA champion and 2014 MVP, surprised the former Iowa star in March, just before Clark and the Hawkeyes faced Ohio State in the regular season finale. Clark made history by becoming the all-time NCAA scoring leader in men’s or women’s major college basketball.
