Fever guard Caitlin Clark finished Wednesday night’s game with 19 assists, setting a new WNBA single-game record. She also had 24 points versus the Wings.
Caitlin Clark established a new WNBA record. The rookie guard set a league record with 19 assists in the Indiana Fever’s Wednesday night game against the Dallas Wings.
Clark ended Wednesday’s game with 24 points, 19 assists, and six rebounds. Courtney Vandersloot previously held the single-game assist record, handing out 18 assists for the Chicago Sky against the Fever in 2018.
Wednesday night’s performance adds to Clark’s excellent rookie season thus far. On July 6, she became the first rookie in WNBA history to achieve a triple-double. She had 19 points, 13 assists, and 12 rebounds in an 83-78 win over the New York Liberty.
Clark became the WNBA’s assists leader on Sunday, with an average of 7.8 per game. That average is about to rise following Wednesday’s game.
Unfortunately, Clark’s historic performance did not end well for the Fever. The Wings proved too much, defeating Indiana 101-93 in the final WNBA game until mid-August, when the league will take a vacation for the All-Star Game and the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Wednesday’s performance simply adds to Clark’s excellent resume as WNBA Rookie of the Year. She’s competing with Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese, who established a league record for consecutive double-doubles, going 15 in a row before his run was broken.
