The Wildcats appear out of the running for the freshly reclassified big man.
There was speculation that the Kentucky basketball team will fill up its roster with a recently reclassified big man from New Zealand.
However, current rumors indicate that 7-footer Julius Halaifonua will not be visiting Kentucky.
Halaifonua, who recently reclassified from the 2025 to the 2024 classes, was apparently contemplating Kentucky, but Jacob Polacheck of KSR stated this morning that this appears to no longer be the case.
ON3 ranks Halaifonua as the #60 overall player in the 2024 class, and the #11 center.
The 7-footer from New Zealand is allegedly considering North Carolina and Georgetown.
With only one roster place remaining, it’s unclear how Mark Pope and the Kentucky coaching staff plan to use it. Reclassification is certainly an option, as is the addition of a foreign prospect.
But, with July almost done and the fall semester starting in less than a month, I’d expect the coaching staff is eager to add that final piece to the roster very soon.
It will be intriguing to find out who the final component will be.
