Jakob Weatherspoon’s latest trip to Notre Dame was significant, as the 2026 Ohio athlete received an offer from the Irish after participating in one of their camp sessions last month.
“I felt really good about that offer,” the 6-foot-175-pound player told Irish Sports Daily. “I’ve known Notre Dame since elementary school, in general. They’re usually a good school, and the instruction there is excellent. I know their primary focus is education.”
The Avon High School standout has also received offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Illinois, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, and Cincinnati, among others.
He could play a variety of positions in college, but the Irish recruited him as a cornerback, which is great with Weatherspoon.
“I fell in love with corner as time went on,” he informed me.
Weatherspoon’s performance at camp delighted Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman and the Irish staff, particularly his running abilities.
“He really liked my speed,” Weatherspoon explained. “I believe that is my main asset. That, I believe, was what sealed the deal for him.
Weatherspoon accepted the offer from Freeman and made a good first impression.
“Very solid man,” he said about Freeman. “He understands the conditions in which all players or recruits are placed alongside stars, and how all institutions convey the same story. It’s simply that he stuck out a little differently to me.”
Weatherspoon plans to return to South Bend for Thursday’s Grill And Chill.
“Just to build stronger bonds with the coaches to be honest and just spend time with the guys,” he stated as his goal for this trip.
He hasn’t planned any fall visits yet, but he hopes to attend several important games.
“I want to make the big games like The Whiteout, the Michigan vs. OSU game,” according to him. “I definitely want to see a lot.”
Weatherspoon will carefully consider how the school plays and interacts before making a final choice.
“Definitely a winning team, a strong program,” he remarked of what will be most important. “How the players are with the coaches, how the coaches are with the players; that bond truly is what you need to be great.”
