The Royals are one of many teams interested in the Miami Marlins’ hotshot reliever/closer Tanner Scott. The Orioles, Yankees, Diamondbacks, Mariners, Phillies, and Dodgers have all expressed an interest in him. These are all teams that are performing exceptionally well in the standings. Regardless of which team Scott joins, he will undoubtedly add to an already impressive roster. All of the teams who are interested are playoff contenders.
Star Closer Drawing Interest from Royals
What the Royals Have to Offer
The Royals’ top five prospects are Blake Mitchell, Ben Kudrna, Frank Mozzicato, Mason Barnett, and Blake Wolters. Mitchell is a former first-round pick who plays catcher and designated hitter. Mitchell has done well, with a 152 wRC+, 12 home runs, and 20 stolen bases in 327 A-ounce games. Mitchell hit his 12th home run of the season on July 11th, driving it 425 feet. The Royals aren’t wasting time keeping their focus and interest on Scott. However, the Royals have a new top prospect, Jac Caglianone.
They’ve already started by trading for Hunter Harvey. Vinnie Pasquantino, the Royals’ first baseman, spoke on the significance of each game remaining in the season: “I think we’ve come to the point where every game is a significant game now. We’ve been talking about where we want to be all year. We’re here. We have 58 left. “They’re all big now.”
Hot Shot Scott
Unsurprisingly, multiple teams are vying for Scott. He has not allowed a run as a closer since June 13th, which is impressive. Scott is also noted for his devastating wipeout slider, which has worn out opponents. In 45.2 innings thrown this season, he has a 6-5 record, a 1.18 ERA, 53 punches, and a 1.01 WHIP. It will be interesting to see where Scott ends up, as many teams are actively seeking to sign him. Scott joining the Royals would be tremendous for their bullpen.
