Jonathan India is having a great comeback season with the Reds after struggling from 2022 to 2023, and the Yankees might be one of the teams interested in him before the trade deadline. The right-handed hitting infielder would most likely play second base, providing a high-OBP threat at the top of the order, where the Yankees have struggled significantly this year. With a 121 wRC+ and 2.4 fWAR in 94 games, he’s a solid choice for any team trying to improve its offensive.

While the Cincinnati Reds aren’t sold on dealing India, Jorge Castilo of ESPN reported Wednesday that the Yankees are interested in him. Jon Morosi of MLB Network suggested New York as a contender in addition to Seattle, suggesting that Brian Cashman may make a real deal for him.

Yankees Showing Interest in Acquiring Jonathan India at the Deadline

Jonathan India 'difference maker' again for Cincinnati Reds in NY

The New York Yankees urgently need help at the top of their lineup, and Jonathan India provides that instantly. With a stance tweak that has helped fuel a second-half surge, the right-handed hitting infielder has become an invaluable asset to the Reds, who have yet to find their footing despite this.

His power numbers are up, and his contact rates have remained terrific, but the question is whether the Yankees and Reds would be a good fit in a transaction. Cincinnati would ask for outfield and pitching aid, although the farm system’s current strengths are infield and catching depth.

Perhaps someone like Will Warren (whom they’ve previously admired) would be of interest to them, but I doubt Everson Pereira is the team’s most exciting potential. They do have some guys with high whiff rates and big-time power, which is the margin for error in a venue like Great American venue, where baseballs fly.

Still, his.374 OBP would be an ideal fit for New York, and I expect the Yankees to make a strong attempt to pursue the 27-year-old, given that he has two more years of control at a low cost following the 2024 season.
