The Los Angeles Dodgers are apparently looking for trustworthy depth before the MLB trade deadline on July 30th.
According to Fabian Ardaya and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Dodgers are “in discussions” with the St. Louis Cardinals about acquiring utility player Tommy Edman.
The Dodgers face a risk as Edman has yet to play a single game this season due to wrist and ankle injuries. He underwent wrist surgery in the offseason and later hurt his ankle while recovering. The Dodgers have reportedly scouted Edman during his recovery and considered his current health status in trade talks.
Aside from health issues, Edman’s versatility appears to be a good fit for the Dodgers’ lineup. The one-time Gold Glove winner can play both middle infield and center field if needed.
The 29-year-old has also proven to be reliable at the plate. In nearly 600 career games with the Cardinals, Edman has batted.265 with double-digit home run totals in each of his four full seasons.
The Edman hoopla comes only days after the Dodgers signed another former Gold Glove winner.
